Several effective ways to cope with the whims of even those kids who are commonly called «hyperactive». It will come in handy in transport, in line, while shopping, visiting a doctor, etc.

GAMES to help stop the tantrum:

1. How does the kettle boil? Tell/show your child what a boiling kettle looks like. That’s how emotions run in you, baby.

2. Tactile game. Come up with your own conditions: if the mother touches the spout, the child jumps; if she stroked her head, she makes a turn around herself; if she touched her cheek, she sits on a chair; if she stroked her back, she stands still. Start with active actions, and then move on to calm ones and gradually increase their duration. Usually, children really like their mother’s gentle touches, so the child will enjoy stroking the back and will certainly calm down completely.

3. A moment of tenderness. Look the child in the eyes, and then hug him tightly, kiss him, tell him how much you love him.

4. Funny fantasies. Dream up on any topic, based on what surrounds you now. For example: if a kid had such a huge truck, what would he fill it with — sweets, ice cream, or maybe toys? And if you could take home any animal from the zoo, who would the baby call to him and where would this animal live? For example, would a baby give his bath to a crocodile, but would he share breakfast with a hippopotamus?

5. Song of emotions. Singing is a great way to let off steam and take your mind off an unpleasant situation. You can sing any song your child likes. And in the set «Clever. We manage emotions ”there are songs specially written in order to express our emotions and experience them more easily. You can sing, for example, «Angry Song» and do the breathing practice described in it.

6. Magic water. Wash the child or hold his hands under running water. Water helps to cope with surging emotions.

7. Fairy tale in reality. Does your child love pirates, dinosaurs, alien stories? Then put on a show! If you see that the baby is about to burst into tears, make a theatrical face, put your finger to your lips and whisper: “Shh! Didn’t you hear anything? Looks like there are dragons walking around here somewhere!” You can run to the window or look behind the shop windows. At home, in general, you can lie on the floor and crawl to the bed — maybe dragons, pirates or other favorite heroes of the baby hid there?! So the child will surely be distracted from the situation that brought him out of himself.

8. Draw animals. If the child starts a tantrum, do not rush to react to it. Sit down, take out a pen and notepad and start drawing. Let it be some kind of animal. Most likely, the baby will become interested in what you are doing, and he will begin to guess what exactly you are drawing. Later on this paper you can draw what made the child angry. When the child begins to draw what made him angry, sympathize with him: «Yes, I I know it’s very frustrating. I’d be pissed off too.» Next, discuss what could have been done in this situation.

9. Anti-capric bunny. Sew a toy bunny or grab a Robbie Bunny from the Good Girl®. We manage emotions. Take out the toy during a whim: with it, it will be easier for the baby to calm down and talk about his emotions. And the book “From Tantrum to Calmness” describes how, with the help of a toy, to teach a child constructive ways to solve problems — without tantrums, that is

It is not without reason that we cited several times as an example the games from the “Clever Girl®. We manage emotions. Because this is a ready-made guide on how to help a child cope with a tantrum here and now, to teach a child to control his emotions in general.

Cheat Sheets for Parents contains tips on how to behave in the most common difficult situations:

  • tantrums on playgrounds (did not share toys)
  • requires shopping in the store
  • can’t wait
  • afraid of the doctor, etc.

And in the book for parents “From Hysteria to Calmness” there is a special section “Emotional First Aid Kit”, which contains funds for regulating the emotions of the baby at different ages.

Set “Umnitsa®. Manage emotions” is not just a theory. It is playful, colorful, with a variety of materials and interesting tasks. The child will definitely enjoy games with Robbie the rabbit, emotion toys, books, cards, a field and online materials!
